You may know the Family YMCA through swimming lessons, camp, gymnastics or fitness classes. The Y is much more – serving as a resource for local individuals and families with needs. Those with financial constraints are supported by the Y through scholarships and financial assistance. In addition, the Y serves as a haven for everyone in the community, regardless of their ability to pay for membership or programs.
The Westport Weston Family YMCA is a nonprofit charitable agency with a 501(c) 3 tax status. It is not part of the town government and relies solely on membership fees — which cover only the programs and services used — and contributions from generous members of the community.
The Y’s Annual Campaign allows our Y to provide camp scholarships, free or subsidized memberships and other financial assistance to local families and individuals in need.
In 2013, the financial assistance we provided to local individuals and community groups totaled $429,900 and included:
- $112,000 for families who need scholarship help to attend Camp, Child Care, take swim lessons or be part of our sports & recreation programs and activities;
- $161,000 in subsidized or free memberships to neighbors in need.
