Hafaday Swim Lesson Program
Hafaday is a popular swim-lesson program for children ages 4 to 8 years old that takes place from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm each day in weekly sessions during the summer as well as some school vacation breaks. The children have a swim lesson and free swim, plus arts/crafts and gym time, with a snack in between. It is a great program where the kids can meet new friends, have fun and really strengthen their swim skills.
The children are divided into 4 different groups, placed by age. The groups rotate to each station every 40 minutes. After 2 stations the children enjoy a snack, followed by 2 more stations, dismissal immediately follows.
Swimming is the main emphasis of Hafaday; your child will have an instructional swim lesson and enjoy a free swim period every day. This constant exposure to the water over the one-week session is the best way to learn. In Hafaday, students are grouped for swim lessons by age and ability. Our program allows us to benefit your children within your summer schedule. One-week sessions allow you to register for those weeks in which you are interested. However for learning in the pool we recommend signing up for Hafaday in two-week blocks.
New! Full-day Option for Hafaday This Summer
The Family YMCA is introducing a full-day option. Starting with the weekly program beginning Monday, July 13, Hafaday campers will be able to add an afternoon session, extending their day at the Y to 3:30 pm.
Children who choose the afternoon option will start with an al fresco lunch, followed by outdoor water games and play time at the Family YMCA’s Camp Mahackeno facility, adjacent to the Family YMCA’s Bedford Family Center.
“Hafaday has always been a great summer program for local families, whether they are YMCA members or not,” says Nicole Turechek, Aquatics Director. “And our new Y is proving to be a wonderful setting, with our shallow warm-water pool, bright new gymnasium and outdoor play spaces. The kids are having a ball!”
“Over the years, we’ve had many requests from parents for a ‘whole’ Hafaday, and with our Mahackeno campus now right outside our back door, we’re able to offer Hafaday families that option,” Turechek adds.
The pricing for weekly sessions of Hafaday for YMCA members is $270; $370 for the full-day option. For non-members, the price is $310; $435 for the full-day option. Hafaday continues through the week of Aug. 17. (Though the June sessions of Hafaday were full, space remains in July and August sessions.)
Please note that all full-day participants must also register for the morning session and must submit a valid physical prior to starting.
