Legacy & Impact Award
He is a man of many talents, deep integrity, strategic vision, charm, and strength. Almost twenty years ago, Iain together with other key board members made the decision to relocate the Y from its location in downtown Westport to its current location to ensure a sustainable future. The project took 15 years to be realized. It was because of his strategic outlook, persuasive demeanor, collaborative style, resolute leadership, and commitment to the YMCA that we are located on this 30 acre campus today.
Iain drove the process which involved countless committee meetings, strategy sessions, gatherings with neighbors, navigating the complexities of Town Hall and the P & Z. Iain played a large role in the Y’s fundraising and capital campaign efforts and handled related litigation that came with the construction of the new Y.
Iain has been a long standing, trusted, member of the Board of Directors (2002-2013) and took on key leadership positions including serving twice as President of the Board of Directors, as well as on the Executive Committee, CEO Selection Committee, Nominating, and Finance Committee. He is currently a member of the YMCA Board of Trustees.
Iain is generous with this time, talent, and treasure and an active, engaged volunteer at numerous local nonprofits including being President of the Library Board and President of Staples Tuition Grants to name only a few. He is also a dedicated Trustee of the NY Genealogical & Biographical Society and on the Advisory Board of Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
Iain’s legacy is that every community in which he lives or works is better, stronger, and more sustainable because of his involvement and leadership. The Y is grateful that Iain and is family are a part of our Y community.
