Dance Center

The Westport Weston Family YMCA Dance Center has been providing quality Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop and Creative Children’s Classes for children, teens, and adults for over 30 years. The school offers a full spectrum of programs for students ages 2 to adult.

Our education-based program is geared toward creating well rounded dancers with strong technique, coordination and focus. We strive to engage students physically and intellectually while helping them have fun while learning.

The Dance Program meets from September to June. We offer two semesters, Fall and Winter/Spring.

Dance Companies

The Dance Center program also includes the award-winning Teen, Junior, Petite, Mini and Kinder Performing Companies. Entrance to the Teen, Junior, Petite, Mini and Kinder companies is by audition, held in early summer.

There is an end of the year performance in June which requires a non-refundable costume fee included in the Winter/Spring session tuition. It is the parents responsibility to inform the Dance Center Director no later than January 8th if their child cannot participate in the end of the year performance.

Dance Director

Lillian Cenatiempo earned a Dance Certificate from Naugatuck Valley Community College in 2007. Lillian is a native of Connecticut and began her training locally where she participated in numerous regional and national dance competitions. She continued her studies in NYC at Broadway Dance Center concentrating on Jazz, Hip Hop, and Tap with Chris Hale, Jim Clark, Frank Hatchett, Fernando, Bette Morrow, and Leslie Feliciano. Lillian has performed and choreographed in productions of 42nd Street, Damn Yankees, Annie and Annie Get Your Gun, to name a few and was a member of the Terpsichorean Dance Ensemble at NVCC. Lillian is entering her eighth year with the Family Y Dance Center, and her fourth as director.

Dance Center Faculty

Danette Meigel

Danette has been a professional dancer/choreographer for more than 20 years. She is a graduate of The Cultural Arts High School where she earned a Certificate in Dance. Danette has appeared as a dancer, model and VJ on MTV’s “Club MTV” and “The Grind,” and has performed with many different professional and amateur dance troops and theater groups throughout the Tri-State area. Besides teaching at the Family Y Dance Center, Danette continues to teach dance at Connecticut Ballet. Danette loves sharing her dance and creativity abilities with our students! Danette is entering her seventh year teaching dance at the Family Y Dance Center.

Lexi LoRusso

Lexi graduated from Springfield College in 2012 with a B.A. in Dance and a Health Studies minor. She began her dance training at three years old. She trained in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, and Tap at Center Stage Dance Studio in Stamford. In addition, she participated in DanceFest workshops concentrating on Jazz, Ballet, Theatre Dance and Hip Hop with Jermaine Brown, Noah Racey, Ben Hartley, and Josh Bergasse. She continued her dance training at the Dance Olympus Workshops in NYC focusing on Jazz, Tap, Ballet and Lyrical with Debbie Dee, Sarah Jo Fazio, Jay T and Sam Fiorello. Lexi has performed and choreographed for several dance concerts at Springfield College and also participated in two company performances with Elm City Dance Collective located in New Haven. Lexi is entering her fourth year teaching dance at the Family Y Dance Center.
