Why does the YMCA have an Annual Campaign
The Westport Weston Family YMCA - one of the area's 501 (c)(3) charitable organizations made a promise to the community in 1923 to keep programs and services accessible to all. We deepen our impacts everyday as we transform lives for the better by nurturing the potential of our members, promoting healthy living, and promoting social responsibility. This is Y the Annual Campaign is held yearly!
The YMCA is a community of people - all ages and abilities, different backgrounds and faiths, various professions and income levels - who come together to develop their spirits, minds and bodies in a welcoming, nurturing environment. And no one is ever turned away regardless of ability to play or capacity to pay. In 2019, 2,073 families enjoyed the Y together and the 903 members over the age of 65 are stronger because of the Y.
To ensure access for all who want to participate in programs, the Family YMCA provides financial assistance to individuals and families unable to afford membership or program fees. And it also collaborates with social services organizations in the area to extend the benefits of Family YMCA membership and programming to all segments of the community.
In 2019, the Westport Weston Family YMCA provided
- $554,000 in Financial Assistance to over 2,200 individuals in our community to be members and take programs at the Y.
- 70 children were able to attend YMCA Camp Mahackeno because of the $67,000 that was provided to them in Financial Assistance.
- 85 children were able to take lifesaving swim lessons. Over 21,000 lessons were taught in our swimming pools.
- 42 children had a safe place to go after school.
- and much more
