In many ways, Chloe Kiev is the reason we have a competitive program for people with special needs at the YMCA. Starting on her 10th birthday, instead of gifts, Chloe asked for donations so that the Y could begin offering programs to more youth with special needs, including programs from the Special Olympics.

Special Needs programming has become a focus at the Westport Weston Family YMCA.  Since the creation of a competitive swim team for youths with special needs in January 2016, our team has grown to include many swimmers split between the Developmental and Competitive groups, and comcompeted at the Connecticut Special Olympics Summer Games every June!

In addition to swimming, the Westport Weston Family YMCA added a basketball team to its program and a track and field team.  The basketball team competes at the Special Olympics Fall Holiday Classic every year and the track and field team competes alongside our swimmers at the Summer Games.

Recently the Westport Weston Family YMCA added a long distance track training program with the goal of participating in multiple 2k, 5k, 10k around the community throughout the year.

We are able to run these programs because of the generosity of friends and community members who see the value in making sure every child has access to these youth development programs regardless of their physical, intellectual, and financial abilities.

You can help us by making a gift in honor of Chloe’s birthday:
