About Camp Hafaday
YMCA Camp Hafaday is a co-ed summer camp for campers in pre-k through 1st grade. Hafaday is a swim based program that promotes water safety, awareness and confidence. All participants swim twice per day including a full YMCA swim lesson and free swim period. Located in the Westport Weston Family YMCA the program includes traditional camp experiences alongside the swim components. Participants enjoy arts and crafts as well as traditional camp sports and games. Our well trained staff lead campers through the day and facilitate the fun. Each week parents receive their campers’ swim report card showing the progress their child has made in their aquatics abilities. Camp Hafaday runs from Monday-Friday, 8:30am-12:30pm.

How often will my child swim?
Campers in Hafaday will have 1 swim lesson and 1 free swim period each day. Swim takes place in the warm pool inside the YMCA facility. During swim lessons swim instructors will lead campers through full swim lesson program. Each week families will receive a report card outlining their campers progress. The report card will also outline the campers current swim level and will show which swim lessons are appropriate for future registration.
Camper Age Groups & Ratios
Ages and Groupings
All age groups are determined by the grade the camper is entering in the Fall of 2021.
- Pre K; age 3-4; Ratio 1-6; Must be able to toilet independently and enrolled in pre school.
- Kindergarten; Ratio 1-6; Eligible for Mahackeno afternoons
- 1st Grade; Ratio 1-8; Eligible for Mahackeno Afternoons
How are groups created?
Campers in Hafaday are grouped by their age into 4 different groups on camp. Typically the groups are Pre K, K and 1, but the numbers of children in each group may affect the breakdown. We try to honor friend requests, but the children must be a similar age. Group requests are not guaranteed.
Does Hafaday have a full day option?
While Hafaday only runs from 8:30-12:30, Hafaday Campers who are in grades K-1 are allowed to register for Mahackeno Afternoons. While participating in this program, campers are gathered at Hafaday dismissal to eat their lunch and then move up to Mahackeno. Campers are delivered into camper groups with other children their age. Since Mahackeno is already in progress at this point, we can’t guarantee that they will visit all activities, but we try our best to get them to see all of Mahackeno while they are there.
