Q: What is the refund policy?

A: Full refunds minus the registration fee will be processed for any reason until February 15.  After February 15 cancelations accepted minus deposits.  April 1 though the camp season NO refunds of any payments and fees.  Should camp close or operations be suspended camp families will be refunded in full.  Should camp close or operations be suspended during a session, refunds will be provided on a pro-rated basis.  NO refunds will be provided for a camper who is sent home or not admitted to camp due to behavior, failed health screening or illness/injury without a doctors note.

Q: How are camp groupings determined?

A: Camp groups are arranged by the grade campers are entering in the fall.  Campers entering the same grade in the fall will be grouped together.  For example, first graders will be grouped with other first graders.  YMCA Camp Mahackeno follows American Camping Association group ratios.  The ratios are as follows: Kindergarteners is 1:6, grades 1-4 is 1:8 and grades 5-8 is 1:10 and grades 9-10 is 1:12.

Group placements are finalized prior to the week campers attend.  Group requests are NOT accepted or accommodated.  Balancing the needs of our campers is an important responsibility we take seriously.  This summer, our program is focusing on growing friendships, meeting new people and cultivating successful group dynamics.  Over the past two years our community as a whole has become increasingly dependent on digital media, electronic devices and other forms of virtual communication.  The growth and development of strong interpersonal skills has never been more important than it is now.  This summer, we as a camp community will work to build these crucial life skills through intentional use of name games and ice breaker activities, team building and other group initiatives lead by our caring and well trained staff.  Campers may or may not be grouped with current friends during their week(s) at camp.  There will be time for campers to grow closer to both new and old friends during lunchtime, camp events, assemblies and other times throughout the week.

Q: When are my campers forms due and how can I turn them in?

A: Health forms (a physical completed within the past 2 years) can be uploaded right into your camp registration account for each camper.   Health forms are due NO LATER than May 31, 2022.  If your camper requires medication at camp, please make sure you fill out a medication authorization form for each medication and an individual care plan.

Q: Will there be swim/swim lessons this summer?

A: Yes, campers will receive between 4-5 swim lesson periods per week.  The amount of swim lessons per week is dependent on age and ability.

Q: Is a YMCA membership required to attend camp?

A: Campers are not required to have a YMCA membership to attend summer camp.  Families pay the non-member rates unless they are full members of the Westport Weston Family YMCA. Full Members of the Westport Weston Family YMCA are entitled to the discounted rate on camp program fees as well as priority registration.  Members can save up to $900 per summer of camp registration fees.  A family membership also allows families to use the campus when camp is not in session.  Families are able to take advantage of the Mahackeno Outdoor Center to picnic, swim, play on the fields, playgrounds, and even canoe or shoot archery when available.

Q: How will I know when my child moves off of the waitlist?

A: We will reach out by email notifying you that you have been moved off of the waitlist and it will include an updated confirmation with the weeks that your child is registered at camp. If taken off of the waitlist we ask that you put down the $50 deposit to hold your week, and balances are required to be paid in full prior to your campers first day of camp.

Q: What are my chances of getting off of the waitlist?

A: There are a few different variables that factor into getting off of the waitlist and registered into a session.

  1. Cancellations- as someone cancels a week of camp we will go down the waitlist for that specific week and add in campers.
  2. Camp capacity- Camp Mahackeno has a capacity of 360 campers per week based on planning and zoning agreements.

Q: What happens when if my waitlist space becomes available but, I no longer need that week of camp?

A: Please email and our administrative staff can cancel out your week so that we can add in another camper off of the waitlist.

Q: Do I have to pay any money to be on the waitlist?

A: No, to have a spot on the waitlist it does not cost any money. When you move off of the waitlist we do ask that you put down the $50 deposit fee to hold your week.

Q: How often will my child swim?

A: Campers in Hafaday will have 1 swim lesson and 1 free swim period each day. Swim takes place in the warm pool inside the YMCA facility.  During swim lessons swim instructors will lead campers through full swim lesson program.  Each week families will receive a report card outlining their campers progress.  The report card will also outline the campers current swim level and will show which swim lessons are appropriate for future registration.

Q: How are groups created?

A: Campers in Hafaday are grouped by their age into 4 different groups on camp. Typically the groups are Pre K, K and 1, but the numbers of children in each group may affect the breakdown. We try to honor friend requests, but the children must be a similar age.  Group requests are not guaranteed.

Q: Does Camp Hafaday have a full day option?

A: While Hafaday only runs from 8:30-12:30, Hafaday Campers who are in grades K-1 are allowed to register for Mahackeno Afternoons. While participating in this program, campers are gathered at Hafaday dismissal to eat their lunch and then move up to Mahackeno. Campers are delivered into camper groups with other children their age. Since Mahackeno is already in progress at this point, we can’t guarantee that they will visit all activities, but we try our best to get them to see all of Mahackeno while they are there.

Member: $130  |  Non-Member: $160
