Honoring Our 2022 BFSRF Grant Recipients
Bedford Family Social Responsibility Fund Awards Ceremony
Westport Weston Family YMCA
In March 2015, the WWFY received a legacy gift from the estate of Ruth T. Bedford. Ruth was the granddaughter of Edward T. Bedford who founded the WWFY in 1923. She is remembered as a trustee emeritus, generous philanthropist, and strong advocate for the YMCA. In 2015, the YMCA Board of Trustees established the BFSRF to give back to the community and carry forward the legacy of Ruth Bedford. The endowment will support one-year grants to local programs which are selected through an annual grant process.
The fund supports organizations that provide direct or supplemental educational opportunities in the Greater Fairfield County area.
The WWFY was pleased to honor our 31 2022 Grant Recipients.
Representatives from each org. were invited up to the podium to accept their check and talk about how the money will be spent. Here are some of the things that were said:
- The Carver Foundation of Norwalk serves 2,500 K-12 students. Funds will towards supporting its middle school program.
- Homes with Hope will help housing insecure people get back on their feet.
- Mercy Learning Center of Bridgeport will use the grant for its Early Childhood Education program.
- New Beginnings Family Academy serves Bridgeport’s most vulnerable children. The donation will help “level the playing field.”
- Wakeman Memorial Association (Boys & Girls Club) sponsors after-school and summer camp programs. They’re also building a second location in Bridgeport.
