WATER RATS EXCEL AT CT SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Connecticut’s top swimmers came together for an electrifying weekend of FAST swimming at the Finals Sessions of the 2023 Connecticut Swimming Short Senior Championships at the Westport Weston Family YMCA. Many of the swimmers in attendance are also highly ranked in the nation making the meet even that much faster.
The Water Rat swimmers held their own and showed up ready to swim. Here are the list of medalist and other highlights:
Kate Murray:
- 50 Freestyle – 1st
- 100 Freestyle – 1st

Ella Gussen: Four (4) New YMCA National Qualifying Times

Maddy Boland: One (1) New YMCA Qualifying Standard

Riley Twiss:
- 500 freestyle – 1st

- Distance Highpoint Winner
Mark Platonov:
- 500 Freestyle – 3rd
Justin Wu:
- 200 Breaststroke = 3rd
Chase Shapiro:
- Third in the Distance Highpoint

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS
- Kate Murray- New team record in 100 butterfly (54.73), previously set by Marissa Healy (55.48) in 2018
- Kate Murray led the Water Rat women’s team with most points scored (114), followed by Ella Gussen (63), Hope Ivanovich (30) and Dani Schwartz (27)
- Kate also also Women’s High Point Runner Up (2nd most points scored in the meet)
- Riley Twiss led the Water Rat men’s team with 123 points, followed by Mark Platonov (94), Michael Ivanov (65) and Chase Shapiro (64)
- Riley Twiss tied for 3rd for Men’s High Point (most points scored overall in the meet)
- Riley won Distance High Point (most points scored in distance events), Chase Shapiro was 3rd for Distance High Point.
