AFTER SCHOOL CARE – AT THE Y

Available for students enrolled in the Westport and Weston school districts entering grades K-5, our After School Care Program provides quality care for school age children in a safe, nurturing and enriching environment while supporting the needs of busy parents. Transportation to the Y is included from local schools upon school dismissal and care is provided until 6:00 PM.

Students enjoy STEM, art, outdoor play at the Mahackeno Outdoor Center, social-emotional learning, and more. A nut-free snack is provided (families may send their own nut-free snack if preferred).

HELPING STUDENTS SUCCEED

In partnership with Huntington Learning Center, we are excited to provide academic support for our 3rd to 5th grade students. Twice each week, Huntington’s experienced tutors will work with students during the program to strengthen skills, build confidence, and support classroom success in a familiar, fun, and supportive environment.

2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR

Tuesday, September 2, 2025 to Friday, June 12, 2026
The program follows the Westport Public School calendar and runs on normal school days as well as scheduled early dismissals
Care is provided from school dismissal to 6:00 PM

TRANSPORTATION DETAILS:

YMCA buses transport students from Long Lots, Saugatuck, Greens Farms, Weston Intermediate School, and Hurlbutt Elementary to the Y.
District buses transport students from Coleytown and Kings Highway.

REGISTRATION DETAILS:

Registration is month-to-month. Payments are auto-drafted on the 1st of each month. You may cancel a future month before it begins without penalty. Rates depend on the number of days per week selected. Schedules may change between months (not mid-month). Program runs on regular school days and scheduled early dismissals. Enrollment requires an updated physical, immunization record, and any necessary medication forms on file.

The Westport- Weston Family YMCA is an amazing place.  The Y is like our second family.  The afterschool staff care so much about the children.  My four children are ages 6-12 and they love the Y because they get help with homework, they get to play games and meet with friends.  Huge thank you to the Y staff, we love you!!!

As a family of two working parents and two kids in Weston, finding reliable childcare proved challenging after our longtime nanny left. With limited flexibility at work, we couldn't manage after-school activities. The YMCA's aftercare program seemed temporary at first, but it has become indispensable. The caregivers are exceptional, fostering strong bonds with our children and providing a safe, nurturing environment. Our kids thrive, making friends, learning, and returning home eager to share their adventures. The program's emphasis on positive values and community sets it apart. Logistically, it has reduced our stress immensely, eliminating worries about sick days and offering additional classes. As a working mother myself, I value the structure and independence it provides. I'm immensely grateful to Kathy and the YMCA staff for ensuring our children's safety, happiness, and continued learning. The Westport Y aftercare program has been amazing for our family, including two working parents. My daughter, Charley, started kindergarten last year feeling very nervous about elementary school. Going to the Y aftercare has really built up her confidence. The teachers are extremely caring, fun and engaging. Charley has built strong friendships with the other students in the program and looks forward to going every day. Every time I get to the Y to pick her up, I find her with a huge smile on her face. I’ve had the pleasure of enrolling my son at the WWF YMCA for the 2021-22 academic year after school program and have been extremely impressed and grateful for the staff and facilities. My son feels safe and engaged every day and comes home with all kinds of new things that he’s learned to do or make. I love the fact that the counsellors will take him to the sports programs that I have also enrolled him in and even get him ready when needed. I find the staff fun, friendly and approachable and the facilities are always clean and well maintained. I look forward to enrolling my little one there as well next year when she’s in kindergarten.

Our kindergartener always has so much fun coming to the Y aftercare program. Whenever I pick him up at the end of the day he just wants to stay to finish whatever activity they are doing that afternoon “mom, can you wait?” is what I get often. Also being able to use all of the outdoor facilities is great in the warmer weather season. Climbing wall and giant slides are favorites.
