Westport VFW Post 399 Invites Community to Honor Veterans This Saturday

Join the Westport VFW Post 399 this Saturday at 9:00 AM at Assumption Cemetery as they honor our local veterans. In a heartfelt effort to ensure their graves are respected year-round, we will be placing new metal flag holders that will withstand the elements and uphold the dignity of our fallen heroes.

This community event welcomes everyone—YMCA members, veterans, and supporters alike—to lend a hand. Your participation makes a significant difference in honoring those who served our country.

Volunteers installing durable flag holders on veterans' graves at Assumption Cemetery, showcasing community support and remembrance.

In previous years, flag markers were placed on Memorial Day and Veterans Day, but due to regular mowing, these flags often became damaged. Thanks to a recent fundraiser spearheaded by Patty Kondub, VFW Post 399 Auxiliary has raised the funds necessary to purchase durable metal flag holders, ensuring that our veterans are honored properly.

The Westport VFW Post 399 Auxiliary is committed to supporting veterans and active military members, and we are eager to involve more community members in our initiatives. You do not need to be a veteran or a member of the VFW to participate—just a willingness to help.

“We believe this is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our community ties,” said Joan Evon. “Let’s come together to show our appreciation for those who have sacrificed for our freedom.”
