WWFY MEMBER SHARES INSPIRING TRIATHLON JOURNEY IN MEMORY OF A DEAR FRIEND

HONORING A LEGACY

The Westport Weston Family YMCA is proud to spotlight the incredible journey of Julina Ogilvie, a dedicated member of the Westport Triathlon Club, as she prepares for the Ironman World Championships in Nice, France, on September 22, 2024.

Julina’s triathlon journey began a decade ago when her friend Melissa encouraged her to join a sprint triathlon, despite not owning a bike or having swum since middle school. Together with another friend, Erin, the trio raced for two consecutive years, with Julina purchasing her first road bike after the second race. Tragically, Melissa passed away from cancer at just 46 years old, prompting Julina and Erin to honor her memory by continuing their triathlon journey.

Over the years, Julina and Erin progressed from Olympic distance races to half Ironman competitions and, last year, completed their first full Ironman—a grueling race that includes a 4.2-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run. To Julina’s surprise, her efforts earned her a qualifying spot in the Ironman World Championships.

“I am deeply grateful to Pascale and all my fellow triathletes for their coaching and unwavering support. We share such a unique and wonderful community,” said Julina.

The Westport Weston Family YMCA invites community members to join the Westport Triathlon Club for the 2025 season. For more information about becoming a part of this inspiring community, visit westporty.org/triclub.
