CHRISTINA SCHERWIN, COO

The Westport Weston Family YMCA welcomes Christina Scherwin, the new COO of the YMCA effective October 24, 2022. Christina will lead implementation of the organization’s strategy and ensure alignment of the mission and vision of the WWFY.

“I’m excited to join the leadership team. Having been involved in the Y and community since moving to Westport in 2014, I understand the challenges we face, as well as the opportunities. I look forward to leveraging my background in competitive fitness, coaching and consulting to enhance our program offerings and a meaningful difference in our community.”, says Christina.

Christina is a two-time Olympian in the javelin for her native Denmark in 2004 and 2008 and a finisher at the 2005 World Championships. In 2022, as a collegiate athlete she was elected to the NCAA Hall of Fame. She has served on the Danish Olympic Athlete Commission and the World Athletics Athlete Commission. While at the University of Oregon, Christina coached athletes to an NCAA Championship, US Olympic Trials, World Championships, and the London and Rio Olympics.

Christina and her family moved to Westport in 2014 where she found purpose as an executive coach. Most recently, she served as VP of Consulting and Sales at Strategy Leaders based in Norwalk, CT.

Christina graduated from Moravian University. She enjoys playing tennis and working out at the Y. Her daughter Emilia is part of the YMCA competitive gymnastics team, and her son Luka enjoys playing basketball and tennis.

Westport Weston YMCA VP of Communications and Branding, Melanie Brockway

MELANIE BROCKWAY, VP of Communications & Branding

The Westport Weston Family YMCA welcomes Melanie Brockway who has joined as VP of Communications and Branding, on October 17, 2022. She will lead the strategy, development, and implementation efforts to enhance the Y’s brand, messaging, and reach in its 100th year and beyond in the community, as well as deepen understanding of the Y’s mission and cause in the community.

Melanie comes with almost 20 years of experience including brand management, content development, advertising, and marketing for a variety of major product and service brands on both the agency side and in house. Her clients have included PepsiCo, Birds Eye Foods, Panasonic, BIC, Jitterbug, Nestle Waters North America, and ReadyRefresh. Melanie then went on to be Head of Marketing for TVEyes, Inc., a global, SaaS company focused on broadcast media monitoring, and most recently was an Account Director at Doner CX. She is the current Chapter President of the American Marketing Association for Southern CT.

Melanie graduated from State University of New York at New Paltz in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications & Media. She lives in West Norwalk, CT with her husband and two young children. Melanie actively volunteers for a variety of local arts and cultural events in her community. She says, “I learned how to swim at the Y, and now I’m watching my kids learn to swim too. I’m thrilled to have joined the Y and work for an esteemed, local non-profit organization and am eager to use my marketing experience to make a positive impact!” Melanie enjoys live music, photography, swimming, and playing with her kids.
