IMPORTANT NOTICE: PROTECT YOURSELF FROM PHISHING SCAMS

We have recently received reports of phishing scams targeting our community. Fraudsters have been impersonating the Westport Weston Family YMCA, sending fake emails in an attempt to steal personal information.

To help protect yourself, please keep the following in mind:

  1. Verify the Sender: Always check the sender’s email address. Official Westport Weston Family YMCA emails will come from our domain (@westporty.org). Be cautious of any variations or misspellings.
  2. Look for Red Flags: Be wary of unexpected emails asking for sensitive information, such as passwords, credit card numbers, or Social Security numbers. Learn more about how to recognize phony emails from the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
  3. Do Not Click on Suspicious Links: If you receive a suspicious, unsolicited, message or email with links or attachments, hover over the link to see where it leads. If you were not expecting to receive documents from the YMCA or it seems suspicious, do not click on the link, download any attachments or respond.
  4. Contact the Sender: If you receive an email stating your membership has expired or payment is needed, verify the request first. Call us directly (don’t use any phone numbers that are included in the questionable email you received).
  5. Report Suspicious Emails: If you receive an email that you suspect is a phishing attempt or from a scammer pretending to be a business, report it to BBB Scam Tracker to warn others at BBB.org/ScamTracker.
  6. Stay Updated: Make sure your email software and antivirus programs are up to date to protect against the latest threats. Stay alert to recent scam tactics by visiting BBB.org/ScamTips.

We want to ensure that you stay safe and vigilant online. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly.
