For the past 75 years, Westport Weston Family YMCA has been home to the Water Rat Swim Team, a year-round, nationally recognized competitive swim program that was established in 1949.

The Water Rats compete against Connecticut YMCA teams in dual swim meets state wide along with USA Swimming-sanctioned meets at the regional, state and national levels. Water Rats are a registered USA Swimming Club, and a member of Connecticut Swimming, Inc., one of 59 Local Swim Committees in the country.

Interested in swimming in the big leagues someday? Get started with our Swim Team Tryouts on August 19th-20th, 2024 for ages 6-8, 9-10 and 11-12! Run by dedicated Water Rat coaches, our tryouts are designed to nurture your child’s swimming talent. Whether they dream of championships or simply want to improve their skills, our team provides a supportive environment where swimmers can thrive. We focus on developing competitive strokes and essential techniques that will propel them to the next level.

Swimmers should be able to complete 25 yards each of the freestyle and backstroke independently, and have an understanding of breaststroke or butterfly.

Tryout Details

Dates: August 19th-20th, 2024
Location: Bedford Family Center Indoor Pool
Sessions: 30 minutes each, limited to 15 swimmers per session

Age Groups and Requirements:

Ages 6-8:
Swimmers should be comfortable swimming 25 yards of freestyle and backstroke, and have basic knowledge of breaststroke or butterfly.

Ages 9-10:
Swimmers should be comfortable swimming 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke, and 25 yards of breaststroke and butterfly.

Ages 11-12:
Swimmers should be comfortable swimming 100 yards of freestyle, and 50 yards each of backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Must also demonstrate a racing dive and flipturn proficiency.
