YMCA Running Club Closes Season With Local Races
This past weekend, the Family YMCA Running Club capped off its very first season with a couple of Fall races, testing their abilities after the last 8 weeks of training.
YMCA Running Coach and Personal Trainer, Amy France lead the group through progressive running training beginning just after Labor Day, meeting three times per week in the evenings. The program was designed to train runners of various abilities, including those who have never engaged in structured run training previously. Training took place mainly on the YMCA Camp Mahackeno property as runners were faced with hills, sprints, and distance!
At Saturday’s Wesley Village 5K in Shelton, Ed Panian was 8th overall 22:05, Jeff Schon crossed 40th overall in 26:24 in his first race of any kind, Nicole Nevard finished 50th overall in 28:05, Megan Loffredo and Coach Amy ran together finishing in 32:28, and Ann Louise Onton finished in just over an hour at age 73!
At Sunday’s Weston 5K, Jen Hack won her age group and was the 3rd overall female finisher at the Weston 5K. Her finishing time was over two minutes faster than her race last year! Her sons, Caleb and Wyatt, ages 11 and 9, respectively, also lowered their times substantially from 2015!
