Diane Benke Honored for Inspiring Message of Volunteerism

On Thursday, October 26, 2023, Governor Ned Lamont congratulated Y Volunteers and the work that YMCA’s do at the Connecticut Alliance of YMCAs Y Leaders’ Dinner. We are thrilled to extend our warmest congratulations to Diane Benke for being honored on this special recognition. Her message of volunteerism is truly inspiring, and she is a shining example of how one person can make a difference. Diane’s personal mission is to share her passion for the WWFY by spreading inspiring stories of the positive impact this organization has had on the health and wellness of its members.

As the chair of the WWFY’s Development Committee, Diane’s leadership was instrumental in ensuring our Y’s year-long centennial celebrations were aligned with the board’s goals to fulfill the Y’s mission by increasing its philanthropic footprint and enhancing the Y’s brand in the community. Diane organized the first $100 for 100 Yoga outdoor event which rejuvenated the spirit, minds, and bodies of new and existing members who participated. She advocated for employees to be recognized for their many years of service with a Salute Our Y Veterans initiative, and she orchestrated a successful sneaker-themed gala for 300, raising over a quarter million dollars.

We are grateful for Diane’s generosity, passion, and dedication to taking on challenges on behalf of the Y, and for her commitment to strengthening community.
