MAKING WAVE ON COMPO BEACH AT THE 45TH ANNUAL POINT TO POINT
The Westport Weston Family YMCA marked a significant milestone on July 28, 2024, hosting its 45th Annual Point to Point swim race on Compo Beach in Westport. This cherished tradition once again brought together participants of all ages and abilities for a day of camaraderie and community spirit in support of the Y’s water safety programs in our shore communities.
109 participants competed in the mile-long open water swim race ranging from ages 12-80 and showcasing their commitment to health, wellness and friendly competition. It was a perfect summer day with minimal wind, and an additional 100 spectators, families, friends, and neighbors filled the beach early to support one another’s fitness goals. Awards were distinguished by overall time and age groups.

A special shout out to myTeam Triumph (mTT) Connecticut who participated in this year’s race with 4 athletes. mTT is an incredible organization whose mission to “create inclusive opportunities for people with disabilities one race at a time” is inspiring. Their army of passionate volunteers “Captain” a team of “Angels” through a variety of athletic competitions throughout the state guaranteeing each athlete their moment of glory as they cross the finish line that so many of us take for granted.
“We are thrilled with the turnout and energy at this year’s Point to Point event,” said Josephine Rojas, Aquatics Director of the Westport Weston Family YMCA. “Celebrating 45 years of this swim competition is a testament to the enduring impact our Y has in this amazing community.”
The festivities extended beyond the race itself, featuring post-race award celebrations, breakfast and refreshments. The YMCA extends its gratitude to all staff and volunteers whose dedication and enthusiasm ensured the event’s success, further demonstrating their commitment to the YMCA’s mission.
We’re so thankful for the support of our competitors, whose contributions will help improve aquatics safety in our communities, including swim lessons that equip children and adults at all levels with essential lifesaving water safety skills and minimize the risk of drowning.
