YMCA YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE (YBL)

Open to boys & girls in K-5th Grade, our new YBL program teaches participants the basics of basketball through skills practice and fun games with guided instruction. Youth build confidence and develop lasting friendships, learn the importance of teamwork, good sportsmanship, as well as the Y core values of caring, honest, respect, and responsibility.

MEET THE COACHES

MIKE EVANS – a shooting specialist, has coached for over 20 years in 7 different countries. A former Weston High School all state basketball player, as well as a Hamilton College & semi-pro player, Mike uses fundamental instruction, controlled scrimmaging and competitive and fun games to teach basketball and lead our development and YBL teams.

ANDRE BROOKS – a former Division 1 Basketball player who went on to play high level professional basketball in Mexico. Originally from Maryland, Andre went on to accept a full scholarship to play at Central Connecticut after high school. He has coached over a decade in Westport, specializing in skill development, one-on-moves and agility-based skills for boys and girls of all ages. He runs the Staples High School boys skill development programs.

YMCA TRAVEL BASKETBALL

BOYS | GRADES 4 & 5
Coached by Andre Brooks, the new Westport Weston Family YMCA Travel Basketball team will play 15-17 home & away games. Practices will be held at the Y and will be 90 minutes each. Must be a Westport resident (see league rules).

TEAM ELIGIBILITY
1. Residency – teams must consist of players who reside in a single town. The two exceptions to this rule is for Easton-Redding combination and the Harwinton-Burlington combination. Those two towns can combine players from both towns onto one team, if they so choose.
2. Open Try-outs – teams must have open try-outs to all eligible residents of the town. Open tryouts must have public notice in which there is a reasonable chance that all eligible players will have seen the notice (copy of public notice and tryout attendance sheet must be available upon request)
3. 9 Players – teams must have at least 9 eligible players. Alternates must be rostered as such for eligibility as replacement of injured players.
4. Home Gym – teams must have at least 9 available home gym dates for League games.
5. Facilities – teams must have an adequate facility, including a visible game clock, visible scoreboard, adequate lighting, good floor surface, three point line if required for that age group, and seats for players and coaches. The home team must provide a scorebook scorekeeper, and timekeeper. All facilities must meet the safety standards of all applicable codes and regulations including, but not limited to, local and state regulations. No team will be scheduled into the season if they do not have an appropriate facility and court time.
6. Administrator – teams must have a manager that is responsible for scheduling and web site updates. (this person may also be coach)
7. Registration – Team applications, rosters, and fees are due prior to or at the annual scheduling meeting. No team will be allowed to schedule games if it has not filed the required forms and paid the fee.
8. Rostered Players Only – Teams can only field players that were included and approved on the team’s pre-season League roster in FCBL scheduled regular season and tournament games. (However, the League choses to have no policy over who plays in Non-League games).
9. Home/Away League Games Rule (new rule 2018): teams can have no more than 60% one way without prior and written Division Director approval
10. Team Photo Requirement (for Boys teams only)
Each boys team is required to submit to their Division Director, via email attachment, a digital team photo of their team, with the players’ being identified by name in an accompanying caption note. Those names will be matched to the team’s League Roster.

See official Fairfield County Basketball League Team Eligibly rules here.

ACTIVITY REFUND POLICY

At the Westport Weston YMCA, our mission is to enrich all people in spirit, mind, and body. We seek to accomplish this mission and support our community by providing quality programming in a safe environment. To assist us in scheduling qualified instructors and assure that we maintain proper instructor/participant ratios, we have established policies limiting the conditions and time frames in which we can make changes to class rosters and/or provide refunds of Activity fees. Policy Exceptions by Directors or documented in activity/class handbooks/flyers supersede the following.

CANCELLATIONS BY THE Y:
• If the Y cancels a program or event prior to the program commencement or event date, a full refund will be issued. The YMCA reserves the right to cancel any program or event that fails to meet enrollment requirements.
• If the Y cancels a program meeting date or dates, every effort will be made to offer a make-up for the cancelled date(s). If a make-up date cannot be scheduled for any cancelled date, a credit will be issued. If a make-up date is offered for the cancelled date, no credits will be issued. No refunds will be issued for those who cannot attend the make-up date.

PARTICIPANT WITHDRAWAL:
• Withdrawal from programming, or special events, at least five business days prior to the program commencement date will receive a full credit. The account credit is good for use up to one year from the credit date.
• After a program commences, pro-rated credits will be issued only for participant withdrawal due to medical reasons, verified in writing by a physician. Refund requests must be submitted to the Y, no later than the last day of the session.
• Refund requests should be sent to the appropriate activity Director.
• All outstanding balances including YMCA charges and bank fees must be resolved before refunds will be issued.
