Seniors are reporting they are starting to have balance issues.

Patty Cavallero, staff member of the Westport Weston Family YMCA has been making calls to senior members of our community checking in on them and seeing what she might be able to do to give them comfort, support and companionship while they are temporarily away from the YMCA. She reported back to the Y, that several conversations mentioned they were starting to have or had ongoing balance issues. In typical YMCA fashion, Shelly Goldman, Director of Health & Wellness went to work in responding to a need in her community. She quickly compiled some easy ankle exercises to do at home. From toe curls and ankle rolls to point and flexes, the list of exercises is a great reminder for all of us who may be moving less than we typically may have in recent weeks.
Shelly Goldman stated, “Ankle stability is vitally important for keeping one’s balance, so I have created this flyer for Ankle Stretch and Strengthen Challenges to help keep their ankles flexible and stable. Our hope is these simply exercises can help in the prevention of slips and falls at home.”
Everyone is welcome to download this flier created by Shelly. Share it with anyone looking to keep strong and well balanced ankles.
