Get To Know Us – Danette Meigel

“Purpose!” Danette Meigel said. Being a part of a cause-driven association, especially one with a focus on nurturing the potential of every child, teen and beyond… that’s what makes her passionate about her work.

Danette Meigel is YMCA Camp Hafaday Director and Dance Instructor and has been with the Westport Weston Family Y since 2009. Previous to that, Danette served the YMCA’s mission for the Westside Y in New York City in late 80s!

“We offer so many inclusive program throughout our Y community. From special needs dance classes to competitive sports and everything in between. I get to work with a group of like-minded professionals that focus on the health and well-being of the members,” She paused to smile, “and one another.”

In Danette’s role at the Y, she has had countless favorite memories, which left it hard to choose when she was asked to describe one.

“Jumping in the pond with my fellow Camp Directors in front of administration, staff and campers to collectively raise money to send children to camp,” She said, “It was amazing!”

But beyond working with children, Danette loves that the members get to know each other and staff by embracing their personal health by working towards physical activity and spiritual goals. They know that there’s always someone cheering them on and challenging one another.

In Danette’s time away from the Y, she has a wide variety of interests including traveling, visiting family and friends, longboarding, painting, dancing, her “Toastmasters Club,” and going to the beach!

Every day, in thousands of places, each Y is serving a different us. In times of crisis, in times of need, and sometimes, just because.
Staff members like Danette are committed to working together to strengthen our community and help build a better us.

The Y. For a better us.
