Westport Weston Family YMCA Celebrates its 100th Annual Meeting
Westport, CT – On Monday, June 17, 2024, the Westport Weston Family YMCA (WWFY) marked a significant milestone with its 100th Annual Meeting at the LOGS Amphitheater within the Mahackeno Outdoor Center. This centennial event celebrated the exceptional contributions of community members, volunteers, staff, and donors who have been instrumental in advancing the Y’s mission. The evening reflected on the Y’s remarkable journey over the past year and commemorated its century-long legacy of service and community impact.
The event began with WWFY CEO Anjali McCormick welcoming the attendees and setting a tone of gratitude and celebration. Anjali highlighted the Y’s mission and introduced the event’s Mission Moment videos, “Finding Community – Meet Bob and Doree” and “Living Strong – Chris’ Livestrong Story,” which showcased inspiring stories of community engagement and resilience.
Following the opening remarks, Board of Directors (BOD) President Juliane Sunderland emphasized the importance of the Annual Meeting as a governance practice and highlighted the Y’s commitment to transparency and accountability. The meeting proceeded with a heartfelt acknowledgment of the outgoing Executive Committee Members, Peter Masanotti and Kristin McKinney, for their invaluable contributions and leadership. Nominating Committee Chair Kristin McKinney presented the slate of nominees for the class of 2027 Board of Directors: Christi Downes, Daniel Ferson, and Danny McHugh, as a Junior BOD. Juliane welcomed the new directors while expressing gratitude to outgoing directors Alec Foege, Peter Masanotti, and Barbara Wiederecht for their dedicated service.
Mike Fitzmaurice then provided a comprehensive report on the Y’s financial health, emphasizing the organization’s stability and growth. Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman John McKinney delivered an address on the strategic vision and future initiatives of the Y, followed by the Investment Committee Report.
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the Y and the community:
Lee J. Edelstein Volunteer of the Year: Diane Dubovy Benke
Diane was honored for her outstanding leadership as the chair of the WWFY’s Development Committee. Her efforts in organizing centennial celebrations, the 100 for 100 Yoga outdoor event, and the successful sneaker-themed gala demonstrated her commitment to enhancing the Y’s philanthropic footprint and brand. Diane’s lifelong connection to the Y, from swimming to her children’s participation in various programs, has driven her passion to give back and inspire others.
Legacy & Impact Award: Robin Tauck
Robin was celebrated for her visionary leadership and philanthropy. As a former member of the Board of Trustees and a generous donor, Robin’s transformative gifts have significantly impacted the Y’s Wellness Center and other initiatives. Her recent contributions for the 100th Anniversary and her efforts in launching the Enhanced Fitness and 7th Grade Fit programs have created lasting benefits for the community. Robin’s dedication to social, cultural, and economic change is evident both locally and internationally.
Upon receiving her award, Robin shared a few words with the crowd, “Thank you for this great honor at your most significant milestone. I could never have imagined the possibilities that are here for all the community and congratulations to the entire Y Team on 100! Health and wellness are so very important today. ‘Legacy’ is a word that implies stewardship through the generations, and I am delighted to have provided impact in that journey. What a lovely honor.”
Youth of the Year: Kate Murray and Andrew Berkowitz
Kate Murray, a dedicated member of the Water Rats swim team since age six, was recognized for her remarkable achievements and team spirit. Her leadership and supportive nature have made a positive impact on her peers. Kate will continue her swimming journey at Auburn University, pursuing a degree in Animal Sciences Pre-Vet.
Andrew Berkowitz, known for his perseverance and embodiment of the Y’s core values, was honored for his leadership and academic excellence. As Salutatorian of the Staples Class of 2024, Andrew will attend Amherst College, excelling as a student-athlete and inspiring others with his work ethic and humility.

Tina’s adaptability, positivity, and dedication were celebrated as she embraced new responsibilities and contributed to the team’s success.
