YMCA Water Rat Swim Team alum Matthew Torres representing Team USA at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo

[Westport, CT – June 23, 2021] Exciting news for Connecticut competitive swimming fans comes from Minneapolis as many watch the Olympic Trials.Matthew Torres WRAT Alum makes Paralympic swim team Westport Weston Family YMCA Water Rat Swim Team alum Matthew Torres will be representing Team USA at the Paralympic Games this summer in Tokyo!

“Matthew has a tremendous work ethic as well as exceptional skills.  His determination and passion for swimming has certainly paid off.” said Ellen Johnston, Director Competitive Swimming; Water Rat Head Coach for the Westport Weston Family YMCA. 

“As Matthew’s swimming began to improve he became more focused on setting a high standard for himself. He was always so coachable and never backed down from a challenge. The Para PanAm Meet in Lima, Peru back in late August of 2019 is where Matthew exploded and became a force to be reckoned with.  So thrilled and extremely proud for Matthew achieving his goal to be an Olympian.”
